e, that is a good list. Ther are so few girls who like High Fidelity. Maybe it is b/c you know so many guys and actually kindof "get" them, er, us.
Dovelett, what could be better than to start with a good romp in the parks of England with the newest James Bond (Daniel Clark) in that film we saw at the Greenway- Layer Cake.
And as long as you're taking requests for things (that I don't have to watch also for different reasons), how about Kenneth Branaugh's version of Hamlet (KB is scottish, you know) or any version of Macbeth (the Scottish Play), or maybe Roman Holiday (purported to be one of the most romantic films ever).
Now since you can't see the Astros while youare there, you could rent Major League, The NAtural, For Love of the Game (what!? a Costner film!?) or better yet, Eight Men Out (about the Chicago "Black" Sox and the curse of 1917) with John Cusack.
Of course there are too many zombie films to name here.
And Lisa took all the good classic ones.
And e took most of the good contemporary ones.
So that leaves mostly movies that we have seen together, such as Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Pirates of the Carribean, Willy Wonka et al, and of course The Salton Sea.
Sigh...I don't think you'll like any of the above suggestions!
here's my TOP TEN... WINGS of DESIRE - German Angel film(you have to read it) FIGHT CLUB - Blush factor High, but its a must see! SLING BLADE - Billy Bob playing less creepy than he really is THE BOXERr - Daniel Day and Emily Watson irish angst CLOSETLAND - A torture film with only 2 actors(google it) WATERSHIP DOWN - Animated Fascist Rabbits LIMELIGHT - Chaplin hits on blind girl RAISING ARIZONA - really anything CeonBros (not ColonBlow) RICHARD the 3rd - Gandalf does Hitler (not in THAT way) TRAINSPOTTING - Obi Wan in the Can ALIENSES 17 - haven't made it yet, but the buzz is killer! HOWEVER You Should Rent... A festival of one Actor/Director (ex: All the films of Dabney Coleman - or - John Woo - or anything based on Jane Austen or Stephen King) Now I would NEVER watch all of those specific examples, but if you do this then you will be the one suggesting rental options to others. I don't rent anyhoo, noone will let me...anymore. : (
BTW I've seen all of the Major Releases of Sofia Coppolia and consider myself an expert on her Library)
PS - Just kidding about the "any of the above suggestions" comment. Meaning those above mine.)
oooo, what great lists! I have to add my .02 worth.
Take Lisa's advice and watch Tea with Mussolini, a great little film. And Benny and Joon is a must-see.
I would add: Hobson's Choice (may be out of print)
Mr. Skeffington (Bette Davis plays a sultry vixen who realizes too late what it means to love)
Persuasion (perhaps the best rendering of a Jane Austin novel)
Lost in Translation The Princess Bride The Young Frankenstein Return to Me Rear Window Psycho 12 Angry Men (the old version) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind The Sting The Best Years of Our Lives (phenominal) Big Fish Gone with the Wind 12 Monkeys and of course the whole flurry of holiday movies that should get you good and ready for the Christmas season!
